SYMVOLA
In fall 2023, I moved to Greece to work as a weaver for a small business in Vyronas, Athens. My stay in Athens inspired me not only through the craft, but also through the lifestyle and the cultural traditions. When I after around 10 months in Greece turned back home to Norway again, I was driven towards a project to investigate, and experiment with the knowledge I had gained through my stay. Both similarities and differences in the textile cultures have lead to a collection of five different designs.
A friend of mine from Nikosia, Cyprus, introduced me to the known weaving technique “Fythkiotiko”. The technique was especially used in the village Fyti, but also other places around the world have used this technique, like for example in Crete, Greece. Some of the patterns have also been used in Norwegian tapestry in the textile history.
